Buckley Pioneer Passes Away
EARLY RESIDENT OF THIS DISTRICT DIES AT HIS HOME HERE MONDAY MORNING
Edgar M. Samms, a resident of Buckley for the past thirty-eight years passed away at the family home here Monday morning at 6:30.
Deceased had suffered for about eight years from numerous paralytic strokes, one of which came on Saturday night, and from which he did not gain consciousness, but passed away Monday morning.
Mr. Edgar M. Samms was born in Salem, Iowa, September 20, 1856. He moved into Kansas with his parents when a baby. In 1877 he was married to Ella O. Cornell, to which union five childred were born, one dying in infancy. In 1885 he moved with his family to Enterprise, Oregon, and from there to Buckley in 1887, where he was resided ever since.
He was one of the earliest pioneers in this district, coming here when there were only three houses where the town of Buckley now stands.
Besides a wife there is left to mourn four children, Edith M. Squier of Enumclaw, Jenne E. Knapp of Buckley, Irma M. Johnson of Ephrata, and Henry W., who has made his home with his parents. There are nineteen grandchildren and four great grand children. He also leaves three sisters, Cora A. White, and Mary E. Steel of Enterprise, Oregon, and Rachael Webb of Seattle.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon under the direction of Jon McCaskey, at the Methodist church, Rev. Blackwell offciating. Burial in the Buckley cemetery.
